Nursing is taking what we have learned and implementing it into many different medical settings. As a nurse you must profesionally care and better the patient, help meet their phisiological and social needs while under your care, and provide overall service to the best of your ability.
I have pursued nursing for about 5 years now. My mother is a nurse and has been for about 25 years now. She is currently employed as an O.R. nurse in The Surgery Center at Tallahassee Memorial. I can give her alot of credit in my career decision. I have volunteered and worked at the hospital for over 3 years now. I volunteered as a patient assistant in the surgery center, worked in the main hospital as a patient transporter for a year, and now work in the operating room sterilizing intsruments for alittle over a year now. Through all of these experiences I have come to the conclusion this is the only thing I want to do in life, be a nurse.
The type of nursing I wish to pursue is O.R. nursing. Alot of people say its for people who want nothing to do with patients but through my experience I see just as much patient care. The nurse has full control over wether or not that patient is comfortable or terrified going under and coming out of anesthesia. Another appealing part to being an O.R. nurse is getting to see the inside of the human body and at the same time enhancing the patients' quality of life, which to me defines nursing. Nursing is the enhancing of someones quality of life wether its the begining or the end and the caring for all.
I think your views on nursing are right on key. I would like to experience the O.R. and surgeries, pre and post, and all that jazz. That is so out of my realm of experience, i can't wait to see how i react to it!
